Spinal Cord Injury

Metro South Health hosts the Queensland Spinal Cord Injuries Service, which provides world-class care to people with spinal cord injury. We aim to assist individuals who have suffered spinal cord injury to reach their maximum potential, and stay healthy.

Services include:

  • Spinal Injuries Unit (SIU)—provides acute management and primary rehabilitation services to people from Queensland.  Rehabilitation programs are goal-directed and delivered by a comprehensive, interdisciplinary team.
  • Transitional Rehabilitation Program (TRP)—provides ongoing rehabilitation in the community and allows earlier discharge from the Spinal Injuries Unit. TRP assists individuals in the transition from hospital to home through interdisciplinary goal-directed rehabilitation programs.
  • Spinal Outreach Team (SPOT)—provides allied health and nursing consultancy and early intervention service for people with spinal cord injuries, their families and other health professionals all over Queensland.  SPOT regional visits provide improved access to these services for people across the state.
