Join us in research

We work with many people and organisations on research that leads to world class treatments and health care.

Teaming up with us as research partners can help you:

  • find solutions to complex medical and clinical problems
  • invest in research and development
  • get government grants and incentives
  • enhance your corporate citizenship and brand
  • try new approaches to research in a hospital and health service setting.

How we can support you

We can help you achieve outstanding results from your research project. Read more about support services for researchers.

Our research facilities

Clinical Research Facility

Our Clinical Research Facility (CRF) is located on the Princess Alexandra Hospital and Translational Research Institue (TRI) campus.

We also conduct research in our other Metro South Health services and facilities:

  • Addiction and Mental Health Services
  • Bayside Health Service
  • Community and Oral Health Services
  • Logan and Beaudesert Health Service
  • QEII Jubilee Hospital

Research areas and groups

We have dedicated research areas and groups in our hospital and health service.

Translational Research Institute

The Translational Research Institute (TRI) has world class facilities and expertise, including a specialist clinical research facility. It’s where our researchers and clinicians translate research discoveries into clinical practice.

Clinical trials

We have some of the world’s best researchers and health professionals, as well as world class infrastructure for clinical trials.

Read more about doing a clinical trial.

Ethics and governance

Our human research ethics committee approves all human research projects in our hospital and health service. We make sure projects meet the ethical and scientific standards set out by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC).

Indemnity and insurance

Each commercial sponsor of a clinical trial or research project will need an indemnity contract and insurance.

An indemnity contract protects the sponsor from unwanted actions, claims and losses. You can download a standard agreement and learn more about indemnity and compensation guidelines on the Medicines Australia website.

The public or products liability certificate of insurance must:

  • name the insured corporate entity acting as the commercial sponsor
  • cover them for a minimum amount of AUD$10,000,000 for any one occurrence and in annual aggregate.

Commercialising your research

We can help you commercialise your research, so it attracts funding from private organisations or investors.

We’ll connect you with clinicians, researchers and industry during the experimental development stage that’s needed to make a discovery commercially viable.

Get in touch

We’re always looking at ways to improve how we commercialise research, and would like to hear from our industry partners, researchers or anyone interested in research translation.

Doing research in Australia

Study a diverse group of people

Australia is a multicultural country with a diverse population. Partnering with us gives you access to a large group of people willing to take part in research and trials. Our healthcare system and clinical practices are similar to the United States, United Kingdom and most of Europe.

Seasonal differences

Some research trials depend on seasonal factors – for example, the flu vaccine, allergy studies or respiratory research. If you start a seasonal research trial in the Northern Hemisphere, you may be able to continue it in Australia when seasons change.

We also have higher cases of skin cancer and melanoma in Queensland due to our seasons and lifestyles.

Investment incentives

The Australian Government offers a generous research and development tax incentive to support investors. Your company may be able to offset some of its research costs under the scheme.
