Multicultural Mental Health Coordinator Program

The multicultural mental health coordinator program is a state-wide program that is closely integrated with the Queensland Transcultural Mental Health Centre. Multicultural Mental Health Coordinators are employed by local mental health services and respond to the needs of consumers from diverse cultural backgrounds at a local level.

Their role includes:

Facilitating culturally responsive mental health care at the local level by being involved in:

  • Case discussions
  • Joint assessments and management reviews
  • Providing information about referral options to multicultural agencies and groups and on how to access specialist multicultural resources
  • Delivering specialist cultural competency training to mental health Hospital and Health Service staff
  • Building the capacity of their mental health services to be more culturally responsive via input in quality and safety, policies and procedures development.
