Redland Hospital and Wynnum-Manly Community Health Centre physiotherapists have celebrated World Physiotherapy Day with a lunchtime table tennis championship.
They said World Physiotherapy Day was an opportunity to highlight the role exercise and physical activity played in improving health outcomes as well as recognising the important role physiotherapists played in keeping people well, mobile and independent.
“A key focus in 2018 is the role exercise can play in improving the health of people with a mental health condition.
“Having a mental health condition increases the risk of developing every major chronic disease and currently, more than four million Australians are living with a mental health condition with approximately 2.4 million living with both a mental and physical condition.
“As qualified experts in movement and physical activity, physiotherapists can give advice on how to improve physical activity and overall health.”
There are currently 21 physiotherapists working across the Bayside Health Service Division of Allied Health providing a wide variety of clinical services in emergency, inpatient, outpatients, residential care, community settings and other Bayside based services including Transition Care and the Chronic Disease Service.
