When to recommence iFOBT following colonoscopy

17 September 2019

Metro South Health have received a number of enquiries from general practitioners regarding the timeframe for their patients to wait before recommencing Immunochemical Faecal Occult Blood Tests (iFOBT) following a successful colonoscopy.

According to the current National Health and Medical Research Council Guidelines, individuals who have had a high-quality colonoscopy performed within the previous two years should allow another two years to elapse (i.e. skip a round) before participating in their next round of iFOBT screening. Colorectal cancer will rarely be present within that interval.
