Smoking ceremony cleanses site of new 2Q

27 March 2023

A traditional Aboriginal smoking ceremony has been held to bless the site of Logan Hospital's new modular ward 2Q before the installation of the building recently.
The Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony delivered by Ted Williams, a Yugambeh elder and educator, and Glen Barry, a Gamilaraay man, was held on Wednesday 8 March on the site.

The event encouraged respectful interactions, foster accountability and provide a culturally safe place to listen, to share and to learn from the knowledge shared.

It also demonstrated the importance of cultural beliefs and practices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in our health service and the Logan Hospital Expansion Program.

Ward 2Q was constructed at Hutchinson Builders facility at Yatala and was transported to site on Friday 10 March in 36 modules for installation.

The ward is a welcome addition to the Logan Hospital and will ease pressure on our busy Emergency Department ahead of the major expansion of the hospital.
