Rapid Access Services

17 March 2023

Until 30 June 2023, Metro South Health is piloting a number of Rapid Access Services (RAS) GPs can refer to. These services provide assessment and treatment to patients requiring escalation of care, reducing their need to attend the Emergency Department and preventing further clinical progression in their conditions.

One of these services is the MAPU Rapid Access Service (RAS) at Princess Alexandra Hospital. MAPU RAS provides assessment and treatment during business hours within 24 to 48 hours of referral to hemodynamically stable patients requiring escalation of care. Early IV antibiotics, IV diuretics, and iron infusions are a few of the immediate, short-term treatments that MAPU RAS offers access to. Further care may also be provided through Hospital in The Home (HITH) services or appointments to MAPU RAS for treatment (if applicable).
