QEII renews commitment to Close the Gap

1 April 2022

In March, we embraced the opportunity to affirm our commitment to improving health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with a new Statement of Commitment to Reconciliation.

As part of National Close the Gap day on 17 March, the new statements were installed in key public locations throughout QEII Hospital.

This new commitment highlights a partnership between Hospital and Health Services of South East Queensland, the Mater Misericordiae Ltd and Children’s Health Queensland, as well as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Health Organisations to develop and implement a regional First Nations Health Equity Strategy and sub-regional plans with joint goals and targets.

There is much to be done to improve both cultural and measurable outcomes locally, across Metro South, and throughout Queensland. While key clinical projects as well as measured targets are undertaken in partnership with health consumers, Elders and Traditional Custodians, community groups, our Health, Equity and Access Team and our own First Nations staff; we all have a responsibility to Close the Gap.
