QEII Nurse of the Year Sarah Stormborn leads with impact

3 June 2022

Congratulations to QEII Hospital’s Nurse of the Year, Sarah Stormborn who is the Nurse Unit Manager of Perioperative Services.

Sarah’s nomination highlighted her strengths as a proactive leader who strives for the objectives of the organisation whilst appreciating staff for their diversity and encouraging their development.

"I turn up each day hoping to make an impact for the better with openness and transparency and I hope this encourages others to do the same," Sarah said.

"I always say we serve with two hands and two legs; one hand for our colleagues and one for our patients and two legs to support ourselves."

Sarah's colleagues believe she embodies the MSH values of ICARE2 by striving to add value to every function performed within Periop at QEII and she invests into her team who she truly believes are the heart of our business.

"All nurses have worked tirelessly this year in response to an ever changing and stressful barrage of priorities that has required us to be chameleons of character and role. I stand alongside the countless other nurses who have exceeded our own previous assumptions of what was possible, and face what is ahead of us with both courage gained from success, and a positivity in the support systems available to us."

If you weren't already blown over by Sarah's positive approach to challenges, her mission is to advance quality at the core of the nursing profession but not just for the patients and the local community.

"Australia's future requires adaptable and innovative solutions to problems, and in the next 12 months, I hope to have reached goals that I could not begin to imagine today."
