Beaudesert Hospital’s Nurse of the Year knew working at a rural hospital would help her forge a long and successful nursing career.
Cassie Buchbach said the diversity of patients and the opportunity to care for paediatric, surgical, medical and rehab patients was something she relished every day.
“I particularly have a passion for palliative care so to be nominated for this award for showing compassion and empathy to my patients is such an honour.”
Cassie said she was thankful for the supportive team around her at Beaudesert Hospital who had provided leadership experience and shared knowledge along the way. “They really feel like a second family to me,” she said.
“The qualities I have gained from working at a rural hospital and some of the difficult situations I have faced are all skills that will help me to continue to grow as a nurse and set me up for the rest of my nursing career.”
Cassie said she was particularly excited to be attending the National Nursing Forum in Hobart in August, a gift she received for winning the award, and looked forward to welcoming and mentoring new staff to Beaudesert Hospital.
