New cots providing hi-tech care for premmies

18 July 2019

Redland Hospital’s tiniest patients are enjoying the latest in technology thanks to the delivery of two brand new Giraffe Incubator Care-stations.

Special Care Nursery A/NUM Amanda Curley said the new cots were wider and featured a rotating table , built-in scales and an air curtain to maintain the internal temperature when the door was opened.

She said the cots could also be lowered to allow better visual and physical access for parents seated at the bedside.

Director of Paediatrics Dr Dougie Thomas said the new cots also enabled babies to be repatriated back to Redland Hospital from 32 weeks instead of 34 weeks which was a step forward for local families.
