Beaudesert Hospital has farewelled one of its most familiar faces who after a decade of service is leaving with enough memories to ‘write a book’.
Nursing and Midwifery Director and Facility Manager Jacquie Smith has brought a wealth of experience to Women and Children’s Services at the hospital since she started there in 2012.
Jacquie has been front and centre during Beaudesert Hospital’s many milestones over the years including the return of surgical and birthing services.
She also proudly shared in the delight of the national recognition the rural maternity service received in 2022 while leading the way for Digital Hospital in rural healthcare.
Speaking about some of her favourite memories, Jacquie says the standout had to be meeting Ed Sheeran… the alpaca!
“They brought the alpacas to the hospital and the star, Ed, just loved getting a glimpse of himself in the reflections of the windows,” she laughed, adding it made the staff and patient’s day.
Although Jacquie will miss the country drive with hot air balloons and scenic backdrop, it’s the people she has shared the past ten years with that she will miss most.
“I have missed and will miss my partner in leadership Dr John Britten,” she said. “We led the service together for five fabulous years and I miss that but walk away with great memories.”
Jacquie says she is now looking forward to a new chapter at Logan Hospital as the Service Line Director for Women’s and Children’s Services.
“I’m ready to be part of leading the service growth and expansion with the established team in the Women’s and Children’s Service.
