"It's good being able to help them": Clive on life in Security

29 October 2020

It was International Healthcare Security Officer Appreciation Day on 14 October and QEII's security staff were out in force, including Security Guard of 23 years Clive Bramham.

Clive, who has been at QEII for seven years, said he started out working security in pubs and clubs where he was dealing with intoxicated people and keeping unruly behaviour under wraps.

"Moving to the health environment is like chalk and cheese. You still have those interactions with people who are intoxicated or suffering from some kind of substance abuse issue, but you also have people who have a behavioural disorder like dementia or confusion and it's good being able to help them," Clive said.

"The most rewarding part of the job is being able to help people get the help they need, whether that be to a clinic they need to get to, or help them through their distress while they're waiting for care."

Mr Bramham said feeling part of the QEII community also gave him a lot of job satisfaction.

"Being here this long there are a lot of people who recognise me, and I certainly recognise them. Being able to help them is an important part of my role that keeps me here."
