GP Smart Referrals - the preferred way to send referrals to Metro South Health Specialty Outpatient Services

27 July 2021

GP Smart Referrals is a system developed by Clinical Excellence Queensland in partnership with General Practitioners (GPs) and specialists to enable GPs to send referrals to Queensland Health outpatient services.  GP Smart referrals is compatible with the Best Practice and Medical Director systems.  It is secure and ensures referrals reach the intended recipient, as fax has become unreliable and poses significant risks to patient safety and delays to their care.

GP Smart Referrals integrates with the Practice Software and auto-populates most of the required information (if it is saved in the patient’s file).  The system provides catchment information, estimated waiting times for the service you select and links out to the patient’s local HealthPathways site.

Condition templates are built in, so when you select the required condition, a form is created that lists all ‘essential information’ and prompts you to attach any that the system has not found.  The template will also list the additional information for that condition.  A list of restrictions for example ‘out of scope’ conditions is displayed to assist decision making.  GP Smart Referrals enables the attachment of different file types, with a very large file size capacity of 25MB.
