The days of searching for a car park at Redland Hospital are now over with the new 1000-space car park opening to patients, visitors and staff from 5am on Thursday 6 April 2023.

To mark the milestone, car parking will be free-of-charge for everyone with paid parking to commence across the campus from 12 April 2023.

Acting Executive Director Bayside Health Service Brett Bricknell said the car park provided easy access to the main hospital building and was a big milestone for the Redlands.

“We know parking has been a challenge at Redland Hospital and this major piece of infrastructure will make a huge difference for patients, visitors and staff who are coming to the hospital,” Mr Bricknell said.

“This additional parking capacity sets us up for our exciting future as the hospital expands, with an additional 65 beds on the way through the Expansion and 28-bed modular ward projects.

“These projects will increase Redland Hospital’s capacity by a third, which is a great outcome for the local community,” he said.

Mr Bricknell said the car park was owned and operated by Redland Hospital, which meant every dollar collected from parking rates would return to the hospital to offset capital costs, operations, maintenance and improvements to the car park. 

“Parking fees are set by the Queensland Government and are designed to be as fair and reasonable as possible with discounts available for staff, as well as eligible patients and their carers.

“The cost to park at Redland Hospital will range from $3.00 for one hour, to a maximum daily rate capped at $13.00. You can still drop off and pick up patients from the hospital for free by using one of the designated time-limited drop off zones.

“The purpose of the car parking rates is cost recovery and the hospital will not be making a profit,” he said.
 
A concession program is in place to provide discounted parking for people experiencing financial hardship, who need to attend hospital frequently, who attend for an extended period of time, or who have special needs and require assistance.
