Bed boost benefits state COVID-19 response

5 October 2020

QEII Hospital will soon be home to an additional 24 beds in Ward 5A courtesy of investment by the Queensland Government.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Health and Ambulance Services Steven Miles said the $12 million project is an investment in the health of residents of South East Queensland.

“COVID-19 has highlighted the need to make our hospitals flexible with the capability to be ramped up as required to meet peaks in demand for hospital beds. This project is being delivered through a special allocation of funding as part of the government’s COVID-19 economic infrastructure support package.”

Metro South Hospital and Health Board Chair, Ms Janine Walker AM, said she was thrilled by the funding decision.

“This 24-bed medical facility will help Metro South Health to provide care to our community and meet the demand for our services at QEII Hospital.

“These 24 beds will make a real difference to the local community, and I would like to thank the government for this investment.”
