Beatrice devotes 40 years to Beaudesert Hospital

16 May 2018

Beatrice Flesser was encouraged by a neighbour to join the Beaudesert Hospital Auxiliary.

That was in 1978 - 40 years go. And today, four decades on, Beatrice is still volunteering at Beaudesert Hospital with the same enthusiasm she had all those years ago.

Beatrice said it was the joy of meeting people and helping them that inspired her to begin volunteering, as well as raising money to help such an important part of the Beaudesert community.

"In 1984 I took over as canteen roster clerk and in 2012 became a Life Member," she said.

Having attended most meetings since 1978, Beatrice said she had seen huge changes at the hospital over the last 40 years and had worked in three different hospital canteens.

"I’ve met a lot of people over that time," she said.

"It doesn’t seem that long; you wonder where the 40 years have gone."

As well as volunteering at the hospital, Beatrice said she was also an active member of the Beaudesert Bowls Club and busy being a grandma to her six beautiful grandchildren.

Beaudesert Hospital will celebrate Beatrice and all its much loved volunteers on May 22 as part of National Volunteers Week.
