Health alert: Novel coronavirus (COVID-19)

Multi-level car park

A new multi-level car park will be built at Logan Hospital.

The new car park will provide an additional 1506 undercover parking spaces, close to the main hospital building.

When the project is complete, there will be more than 2000 car parks available on or adjacent to the hospital site for patients, visitors and staff.

What we’re planning

The project includes:

  • a new eight-level, 1506-space undercover multi-level car park
  • sustainability initiatives including solar panels and rainwater tanks
  • enhanced safety and security features.

Benefits

  • Safe and secure undercover parking for patients, visitors and staff
  • Easy access to the main hospital building
  • Meets current and future demand for car parking ahead of the hospital expansion

What’s happening now

We have commenced detailed design for the project and expect to commence construction in August 2020.

Parking during construction

The multi-level car park will be constructed on land currently designated as a staff car park.

During construction, patients and visitors will continue to be able to park in designated areas at the front of the hospital and underneath the main hospital building (Building 3).

There will be no changes to pick-up and drop-off zones.

When the multi-level car park opens

The multi-level car park at the hospital is expected to be finished in mid-late 2021. When it opens, it will no longer be free to park at the hospital; a parking fee will apply to park anywhere on the hospital campus.

Concessional parking rates will be available for eligible patients, carers, and hospital staff.

It will always be free to drop-off and pick people up from the hospital.

Frequently asked questions

Why are we building a new car park?

We are committed to creating additional car parking capacity for staff, patients and visitors prior to the completion of the Logan Hospital Expansion.

Once the multi-level car park is complete, there will be more than 2000 car parks on and adjacent to the hospital site.

Where is the multi-level car park being built?

The multi-level car park will be constructed on the south-west corner of the hospital campus, on the corner of Loganlea and Armstrong Roads. This area is currently used for staff parking.

Will construction affect patient and visitor parking?

There will be minimal impact to patient and visitor parking as a result of the multi-level car park construction. During construction, patients and visitors will continue to be able to park in designated areas at the front of the hospital and underneath the main hospital building (Building 3). There will be no changes to pick-up and drop-off zones.

There may be some changes to traffic and pedestrian flows in and around the hospital site. These changes will be clearly signed.

What will the multi-level car park look like?

As an eight-storey building, we are mindful of the need to create a visually appealing exterior for the multi-level car park. We are engaging with community members, Logan City Council, cultural groups and hospital staff to co-design the façade.

Will patients and staff have to pay for parking now?

Once the car park is open, as with all large hospitals in South East Queensland, there will be a cost for parking on the Logan Hospital site. There will be concessions for eligible patients, such as those who attend the hospital frequently.

The car park will be owned and operated by the Queensland Government and not a private operator. Car park tariffs will pay for the capital repayments, operations, maintenance and improvements of the car parks. The focus on tariffs is cost recovery and not profit making.

What will be the cost of parking?

The car parking tariffs and concessions will be finalised in the lead up to the opening of the multi-level car park. Car park tariffs will pay for the capital repayments, operations, maintenance and improvements of the car parks. The focus on tariffs is cost recovery and not profit making.

Will the new multi-level car park be accessible?

The new multi-level car park will incorporate accessible design features that meet Australian Standards, including disabled bays and appropriate walkways to the hospital buildings.

Will the new multi-level car park be safe?

The safety of our patients, visitors and staff is our number one priority. The new car park will feature several safety features including:

  • marked safe walking routes
  • safety lighting
  • CCTV, monitored on-site by the local Logan Hospital Safety and Response team
  • duress points on each level.
