Health alert: Novel Coronavirus

Mental Health Decision Unit

What we’re planning

A new Mental Health Decision Unit will be added to Logan Hospital’s Emergency Department, which will create a welcoming and comfortable environment for our patients and their families.

The unit will be constructed within the existing courtyard space of the Emergency Department, and will include a patient lounge, consult rooms, staff station and access to an outside area.

This space will provide a safe and quiet area for our mental health patients to be triaged and treated, while being in close proximity to the emergency department to ensure a cohesive response to individual patient needs.

  • Dedicated space for patients experiencing mental health conditions
  • Provides rapid access to early diagnosis, intervention and referral for patients
  • Creates an environment where patients experiencing mental health conditions don’t need to transition through the busy emergency department.

  • July-September 2019: Procurement and design
  • October 2019: Construction starts
  • March 2020: Opening

What to expect

From 28 October 2019, the courtyard area near the Emergency Department will be closed for construction, and staff and members of the public will not be permitted to access the area after this date.

Aside from access to the courtyard, we don’t expect patients or visitors to be impacted by this construction project.
