A new, $20 million specialised medical has been built on the Logan Hospital campus as part of a rapid expansion project.
What we're building
The modular building will allow us to open a fully equipped ward in about six months—helping to ease existing pressure on the hospital and improve patient flow through the emergency department.
The 28-bed ward is specially designed for longer-stay patients who have complex care needs.
As a modular building, the new ward was manufactured off site at Ormeau, and then delivered and installed at the hospital. It includes:
- a 28-bed ward comprising a mix of single rooms and shared rooms, with ensuites
- fully equipped ward with all essential services including plumbing, medical gases and clinical lighting
- nurses’ station, medication room, utility rooms and staff facilities
- an enclosed link way connecting the ward to the main hospital building
- a courtyard and patient common room
- a second floor featuring office space for hospital support teams.
We have already delivered a similar modular ward at Logan Hospital in early 2020, and it has proven to be an effective solution to increasing capacity to respond to demand for public health services.
Benefits
The new medical ward will:
- increase the capacity of the hospital quickly to help meet the increasing needs of the community in one of fastest growing regions in the state
- be manufactured offsite and then craned into the hospital grounds, minimising construction impacts at the hospital.
