We're investing over $1 billion to build a bigger and better Logan Hospital. Our expansion program is one of the largest in Queensland and includes:

  • major upgrades to our hospital buildings and services
  • new buildings and parking
  • more beds and operating rooms
  • new medical, maternity and surgery wards
  • more health care services.

The upgrades will make it easier for our community to access health care. It will also help patients get treatment closer to home. Building started in 2020 and many of the upgrades have already opened. We expect all upgraded buildings and services to open by the end of 2027.

There may be changes to hospital entry points or parking when we're building. If you’re going to hospital, you can search our health services to check if there are any changes you need to know.

Why we’re expanding

Logan City is one of Queensland’s largest growth areas. In the next 15 years we expect:

  • our population to grow by 100,000 people
  • 110% increase in inpatient hospital admissions
  • 52% increase in emergency department admissions.

The Queensland Government has funded the Logan Hospital expansion to make sure we meet the needs of our community, now and in the future.

The upgrades are part of the Queensland Health and Hospitals Plan. We've planned them based on:

  • our medical and clinical health service needs
  • information about our population and expected growth
  • feedback and consultation with our patients and community
  • advice from builders, engineers and design experts
  • feedback from our staff, nurses, doctors and clinical experts.

Logan maternity program

Logan Hospital has welcomed more than 61,000 babies into the world over the past 25 years.

We've outgrown our home.

That's why the Queensland Government is investing $18.8 million into a bigger, better maternity service for Logan.

In 2021, we will deliver a new maternity ward with a mix of single and double rooms with ensuites and facilities for partners to stay overnight.

New birthing suites including birthing pools.

New special care nursery including rooming-in facilities so families can stay close.

And better spaces for families and visitors.

Giving our new mums and their families modern facilities, more healthcare choices and improved privacy and comfort.

The new Logan Maternity. One big family.

Our maternity unit upgrades are a $18.9 million building works program. The upgrades will give new mothers and parents more birthing choices, better privacy and better access to maternity care. The upgrades include:

  • increasing our maternity inpatient unit to 36 beds
  • modern birthing suites with birthing pools
  • new single and double rooms with bathrooms
  • better spaces for partners and families to visit or stay overnight
  • a new special care nursery for sick or premature babies.

We've opened our new maternity unit and birthing suites. We’re now working on our special care nursery which will open in late 2024. Watch our maternity refurbishment and expansion video to learn more.

Get involved

We're working with people and groups from our community to help plan the upgrades and get feedback including:

  • user groups where we co-designed clinical and public spaces with architects and clinicians
  • consultations about the look and design of the upgrades and wayfinding strategy
  • the hospital site’s building approval with local council
  • the look and design of our new multi level car park
  • training and work experience opportunities for local school students.

We also worked with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and Traditional Owners to make sure the upgrades are culturally safe.

We have 2 community groups involved in the upgrades:

  • Logan Maternity Advisory Group that helped us plan and design our upgraded maternity services
  • Arts, Culture and Environment Reference Group that provides feedback on how we should use art to create welcoming and beautiful spaces.

If you’d like to get involved in our consumer groups, email LoganHospitalExpansion@health.qld.gov.au.

Jobs

As we grow and finish our upgrades, we’ll need over 1,500 new staff members to join our team. We'll have jobs across all areas including nursing, medicine, allied health, pharmacy and business support.
