Maternity upgrade

Over the past five years, demand for Logan Hospital maternity services has increased by 44 percent, with more than 3,200 births in 2016-17. Patient feedback is excellent for staff care but indicates the experience could be improved with upgraded facilities to support leading practice.

A Detailed Business Case has been funded for a major refurbishment and expansion to Logan Hospital maternity and neonatal services.  This means planning is now underway for an upgrade that will provide:

  • a refurbished maternity inpatient unit with more beds, including a mix of single and double rooms with ensuites
  • additional birthing suites including birthing pools and larger, more modern spaces
  • special care nursery with additional cot spaces, more circulation space between cots and upgraded bathroom facilities
  • direct access to maternity services enabling vehicular and emergency drop off via a dedicated road.

The maternity upgrade is part of the Logan Hospital Infrastructure Program.

Have your say

The Maternity and Neonatal Project is in the schematic design phase, which is when the areas of the unit and services to be improved are confirmed, and high level plans developed around this (where services will be located, but not the specific location of each bed etc).

More detailed project information, including detailed design drawings and inclusions will be available at future stages and this information is developed.
