Kidney Services

at Redland Hospital

The Department of Kidney Services is a medical specialty concerned with all aspects related to the kidneys and their function. The kidneys are vital organs that filter the bloodstream, clearing waste products and controlling the body’s level of water and chemicals.

Chronic kidney disease is a condition where a person has evidence of kidney damage or reduced kidney function. People with end-stage kidney disease require dialysis or a kidney transplant to stay alive.

Redland Hospital has a Haemodialysis Unit that delivers expert care for people with end stage kidney disease.

We also provide nephrology outpatient clinics with a specialist doctor on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons in the hospital’s main medical outpatient area.

Information for dialysis patients

  • Please bring your Medicare Card with you on your first dialysis. If you have a Pension Card, Health Care Card, Seniors Card or DVA Card, you should bring them as well.
  • Dialysis days and times are scheduled by the Nurse Unit Manager.
  • Changes may occur to your allocated dialysis day and time, if a clinical need arises.
  • If for any reason you are unable to present for your allocated dialysis, please notify the unit as soon as possible by phoning (07) 3488 3260 so other arrangements can be made.

Parking

Parking spaces are available for dialysis patients who drive themselves, directly adjacent to the dialysis unit.  Friends and relatives of patients are able to park in the general car park.
