The PAH is a tertiary referral and teaching hospital, providing comprehensive services to South East Queensland. The PAH is an 800-bed hospital located 4kms from the CBD in Woolloongabba. It provides a full range of adult specialty services (excluding O&G). Innovation is part of our DNA and in November 2015, the PAH became Australia’s first large-scale digital hospital.
As a major trauma centre, there is a retrieval service with a helipad located on the roof of the hospital building that incorporates a high-speed lift which travels directly into a resus room. The PAH is the major centre for liver and kidney transplantation and is home to some state-wide services e.g. melanoma and sarcoma service.
It is nationally recognised for its expertise in digital health and telehealth. There are strong links with the co-located research facility, the Translational Research Institute (TRI), as well as collaborations with The University of Queensland and Queensland University of Technology. The PAH is a popular choice and is usually over-subscribed in the Queensland Health intern and RMO recruitment campaigns.
The PAH is a fantastic place to train, whether your interests lie in medical, surgical or critical care specialities.

The Medical Education Unit focusses on providing support and assistance to Interns and House Officers at the PAH. The Unit has an open-door policy and junior doctors are encouraged to seek help and support from any of the staff. Some of the educational opportunities at the PAH include:
The Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Hospital (QEII) is located at Coopers Plains, 15 minutes south of PAH and is a medium- sized metropolitan adult facility with approximately 180-200 inpatient beds. QEII provides a range of inpatient and outpatient services and a 24-hour emergency department that attends to just under 60,000 patients per annum.
From 2020 QEII can be chosen as a primary facility to complete your internship. Therefore, the PAH will only send one or two interns per term to the Emergency Department at QEII. There are no other rotations at QEII for PAH interns.
