Intensive Care Unit

The Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH) Intensive Care Unit is regarded as one of the leading adult specialist facilities in Australia. With 26 funded beds on average and over 2,300 annual admissions, the ICU has the highest surgical throughput of any hospital in Australia and New Zealand. All major adult specialities are provided with the exception of burns and obstetrics.

Specialty services provided include:

  • Trauma
  • Neurosurgery
  • General surgery
  • Respiratory medicine
  • Cardiothoracic surgery
  • Spinal injury management
  • Liver and renal transplantation
  • Extra-Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO).

The motivated team of doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, social workers, occupational therapists and speech pathologists work together to deliver a high standard of holistic patient care.

University affiliation, active training programs and internationally recognized research contribute to advancement in intensive care practices and continuing staff development.
