Rest is an important part of helping your body heal and recover. Many studies show that continued exposure to excessive hospital noise and light can:
» have a physiological and psychological impact on patients
» delay healing
» negatively alter immune function
» increase anxiety and stress
» cause falls, confusion and increase pain.
Despite our best intentions, our hospitals can be very disruptive, making it difficult for our patients to rest. Some disruptions are necessary for care – others aren’t.
To help your patients feel more rested, Metro South Health has produced an educational video and useful resources for staff.
The Restful Environment Project resources are available on the intranet and include:
» Restful Environment video
» Information session staff presentation
» Action plan template
» Sleep deprivation fact sheet
» Case study.
The Restful Environment Project is part of our commitment to providing the best possible health care experience for our patients.
This project is supported by the Executive Planning and Innovation Committee (EPIC). EPIC awards funding to innovative projects which benefit Metro South Health patients, staff and the community.
