With a commitment to providing the highest quality of antenatal care to women, and supporting a woman’s choice to undertake shared maternity care with her GP, MSHHS GPLO Maternity team have developed a range of GP Maternity Shared Care Alignment Program options.
The Alignment Maternity 1 (AM1) seminar is the foundation education event for all GPs wishing to be aligned in MSHHS, and encompasses a 5 hour interactive education event covering the following topics: referral processes and available models of care/specialised services, recommended screening tests, fetal anomaly screening including nuchal translucency and NIPT, common first trimester presentations, communication with MSH Maternity Services, Rh negative women, gestational diabetes, hypertension and pre-eclampsia, reduced fetal movements and fetal growth restriction, immunisations and perinatal mental health.
An IAR (INITIAL ASSESSMENT AND REFERRAL FOR MENTAL HEALTHCARE) workshop will follow the Shared Care event and lunch will be provided for those who stay for the afternoon session. The IAR provides general practitioners and clinicians education regarding an assessment tool useful to recommend the most appropriate level of care for a person seeking mental health support. NOTE: GPs will receive a $300 remuneration payment for the IAR training and 4 CPD Points for IAR Training completion. Register for the second session here.
Events are somewhat focussed depending on maternity catchments, so that hospital pathways can be demonstrated, but the alignment events cover information relevant to all GPs who work in the MSHHS maternity catchments and care for pregnant women, and all GPs who wish to undertake shared care are encouraged to attend. We work closely with the Mater Mother’s Hospital, to ensure there is consistency for GPs who work across the Brisbane South area.

Please find below useful GP Shared Care Resources, including the Brisbane South Antenatal Shared Care Summary document, and PDF versions of our most recent AM1 PowerPoint presentations, as well as the Online Bridging module. Please note that these presentations will be updated to the most recent version periodically, which may be different to the slides from an Alignment education event you have attended.
