Our board oversees our strategy, governance and performance. They make sure we use our resources in a way that is effective, efficient and in the interests of our patients and all Queenslanders.

Ms Janine Walker AM – Chair

Current term until 31 March 2026

Adjunct Professor Janine Walker AM is a human resources expert with a background in health and academia. She worked as a broadcaster and columnist for the ABC and has held several senior management roles, including:

  • Human Resources Director – Griffith University
  • Human Resources Director – Princess Alexandra Hospital
  • Director of Industrial Relations – Queensland Health
  • Industrial Director and General Secretary – Queensland Public Sector Union.

Janine is a board director for QSuper and the Australian Retirement Trust. Her past board and committee roles include:

  • Board Chair – Australia New Zealand Foundation
  • Board Chair – All Hallows’ School
  • board and audit committee member – Australian Broadcasting Corporation
  • board member – Queensland Symphony Orchestra
  • member of the Vocational Education Training and Employment Commission.

Janine is a fellow of the Australian Human Resource Institute and Australian Institute of Management. She's also a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

In 2019 the Australian Government appointed Janine a Member of the Order of Australia for her service to education, community health and the media.

She is an adjunct professor and guest lecturer at the Griffith Business School.

Mr Matthew Ames

Current term until 31 March 2026

Matthew Ames is a senior leader with more than 20 years of experience in environmental health and safety, and risk management.

Roles Matthew has held include:

  • Group Manager Health, Safety and Environment – Origin Energy
  • Principal Environmental Engineer – URS Corporation.

Matthew advocates for consumers on several Queensland Health committees and is a member of the following boards:

  • Hear and Say
  • Centacare Brisbane
  • Xavier Children’s Support Network
  • Bionics Queensland.

Matthew has a Master of Business Administration and is also a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Associate Professor Helen Benham

Current term until 31 March 2026

Associate Professor Helen Benham is an experienced rheumatologist, researcher and clinician. She works in clinical practice at Princess Alexandra Hospital and is Executive Director of Translation at the Translational Research Institute.

Roles Helen has held in the past include:

  • Board Chair – Arthritis Queensland
  • Director – PA Research Foundation.

She is also a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a fellow of:

  • The Royal Australasian College of Physicians
  • the National Health and Medical Research Council.

Helen has a PhD from the University of Queensland, where she is an associate professor. Her research focuses on improving health care for chronic disease through patient risk assessment, medicines and decision-making.

She also has Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (Hons) and Bachelor of Applied Science (Podiatry).

Ms Nadia Bromley

Nadia Bromley is a solicitor qualified in law and business. She has a broad range of experience across the corporate, profit-for-purpose and community sectors.

Nadia has a passion for access to justice, legal services and women’s rights and safety. She's the CEO of Women's Legal Service Queensland and a member of Queensland’s Domestic and Family Violence Death Review and Advisory Board.

Mr Colin Cassidy PSM

Current term until 31 March 2026

Colin Cassidy is a former senior executive with more than 40 years of leadership experience in the public sector.

His past roles include Deputy Director-General and General Manager Office of Strategic Projects at the Department of State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning.

Colin has worked in state, regional and local governments across several areas, including:

  • land use planning
  • infrastructure
  • corporate governance
  • business planning and service delivery,
  • strategic policy
  • industry development
  • investment attraction.

He has served on several boards, including the Queensland Building and Construction Board.

In 2020, Colin received a Public Service Medal for improving the economy, helping businesses and town planning in Queensland.

Associate Professor Donisha Duff OAM

Current term until 31 March 2028

Adjunct Associate Professor Donisha Duff has more than 20 years of experience in health policy, planning, and management. A big focus of her career has been Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and Indigenous affairs.

She has worked for federal and state governments, non-government organisations and community groups in the health industry.

Donisha is the senior manager at OCHRe (Our Collaborations in Health Research) at the University of Queensland. The national network brings together Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander researchers and leaders to improve the health of Australia's First Nations people.

She’s also on the Queensland Voluntary Assisted Dying Review Board and is Board Chair of the Stars Foundation Limited.

Donisha is an adjunct associate professor at Edith Cowan University. She works with Kurongkurl Katitjin, their centre for Indigenous Australian education and research.

Donisha is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander woman from Thursday Island in the Torres Strait. She has family links with Moa and Badu Islands in the Torres Strait and is a Yadhaigana and Wuthathi Aboriginal traditional owner (Cape York).

Mr Michael Goss

Michael Gossis a lawyer with more than 30 years of experience at large and mid-sized Australian firms. He now runs his own legal consultancy.

He has practised in commercial law, agribusiness, banking, and residential aged care.

Michael has worked with financial clients like Rabobank, NAB and ANZ. He's also a board member for Beaumont Care and Queensland Rail.

Michael brings valuable legal expertise and strategic insight to the board.

Ms Gail Ker OAM

Gail Ker is a renowned leader in multicultural, humanitarian and community services. She's a special advisor for The Social Policy Group.

Gail served as the CEO of Access Community Services for more than 17 years. She helped them grow into one of the country’s leading settlement, employment and training organisations, supporting migrants, refugees and people born in Australia.

Gail has been a member of several boards including:

  • Settlement Services Advisory Council
  • SBS Consumer Advisory Committee
  • Migration Council Australia.

Dr Muhammad Daniyal Mian

Current term until 31 March 2026

Muhummad Daniyal Mian is an electrical engineer and project manager. He leads the asset management and operations business for Arup in Australasia.

Dr Vu Tran

Dr Vu Tran is a GP based in Springwood. He completed his medical degree at Bond University and has a keen interest in paediatric medicine, chronic disease management and disease prevention.

Vu has passion for finding new and innovative ways to promote healthcare in the broader community. He's the co-founder of a successful workplace learning technology startup.
