We want to make sure we connect patients from our multicultural communities with health care that’s safe and appropriate.
Our Multicultural Health Service Plan 2023-2026 [PDF 1449.64 KB] sets out the ways we’ll achieve this. It explains how we’ll improve healthcare for people from diverse cultural backgrounds and for people who speak several languages, or don't speak English. It also sets out measures that help us tell if our care is up to standard.
Priorities for 2023 to 2026
We’re working to improve in these areas:
- Workforce – making sure our workforce is a diverse group of staff who welcome and support everyone in our community.
- Language and communication – trying new ways to communicate with patients in their language, including language technologies.
- Safety and quality – working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds to make health care safer and better.
- Holistic care – making sure we meet all the needs of each patient, including their physical, mental, emotional, social, cultural and spiritual needs.
- Co-design and partnership – learning from people with diverse backgrounds so we can improve our health care and services.
How we made this plan
We asked people from different cultural and language groups how we could improve the health care services they need. We used their feedback to set the priorities in our multicultural plan.
Our multicultural plan also aligns with these strategies and plans.
