PAH celebrated its valued volunteer service this week by acknowledging those who have given five, 10 and 15-years of service to one of the many volunteer portfolios in action across the hospital.
With 75 dedicated volunteers delighting both patients and staff with their service and smiles, the cohort now includes 12 octogenarians with two of the crew turning 80 this year.
Between them, the octogenarians have 992 years of wisdom, and have contributed 163 years of service to PAH.
PAH’s newest volunteer octogenarian, Ross Lang turned 80 in April and contributes one shift a week manning the tea and coffee cart to outpatient departments.
“I’m pleased to lend a hand to the tea and coffee service. The busiest outpatient clinic is definitely oncology - on a busy day, we are flat out getting around to everyone. The eye clinic is also very busy but you’ve gotta be focused to do the tea and coffee service,” he said.
A keen tennis player, Ross said keeping fit and being an active member within the community keeps him mentally and physically on the ball. He also loves gardening and professes to chase his wife around the kitchen regularly so PAH can thank her for pushing him out of the house once a week to delight the good people in outpatients with tea and coffee.
