For Paula Cosgrove, Senior Health Funding Analyst it literally pays to be on the ball. Her unwavering commitment to optimizing the hospital's financial sustainability has resulted in $30 million of unrealised funding and earned her recognition from the hospital.
The Health Funding Analysts work behind the scenes to ensure the life-saving work clinical staff do on the frontline is recognised in the budget. Armed with data incoming from across the health service, it’s part of Paula’s job to ensure the work of clinical staff is recorded and funded appropriately.
"One of the most rewarding aspects of my work is the collaboration with colleagues and departments to identify opportunities for improved funding," Paula said.
“I enjoy educating key stakeholders to ensure they are recording the health care activities within their department accurately. It means their efforts can be better represented as activity-based funding (ABF) and reflect the efforts of their team.”
Her attention to detail, coupled with her ability to integrate her knowledge of the hospital's big picture strategy and organizational goals, has made her a crucial asset to the PAH.
"Accurate data capture is critical in ensuring that the hospital receives the funding it deserves," Paula explained. "My role is not only about crunching numbers but also aligning our financial goals with our commitment to delivering high-quality patient care."
Paula’s nomination for PA’s monthly staff award spoke to her efforts in taking on the task of identifying and actualising missed funding opportunities.
Working alongside her colleagues, Paula has contributed to successfully uncovering over 30 million dollars in previously overlooked ABF opportunities, which speaks to the team's dedication and the hospital's commitment to financial sustainability.
Paula's analysis and innovative proposals have led to the successful implementation of new systems and data integrity enhancements. These improvements have not only streamlined internal processes but have also supported optimization projects both within and outside the institution.
With over 20 years of dedicated service the staff award for Excellence in October acknowledged the enormous contribution Paula makes to the PAH through excellence, engagement, and integrity.
Thank you, Paula!
