A PAH staff member who has spent decades with us has pledged the ultimate gift by donating his estate to the Princess Alexandra Research Foundation (PARF), ahead of its Giving Day on Thursday 7 September 2023.

Jamie Bedson, a Medical Records Administrator at PAH, says the decision was an easy one for him.

“I'm on my own and I've got no family. I've got friends, but no one that I really want to give the money to,” he said.

“I thought, who can I give it to? So that's why I went straight to the foundation.”

It was his 23 years of experience in a hospital environment that led Jamie to choose PARF.

“Because I work in a hospital in medical records, I can understand the medical side of things and what people are going through in a hospital.

“People might be going through a smaller situation through to something more life-threatening, but regardless it is going to a good cause, and that's what I'm happy about.”

For Jamie, the best thing about donating to PARF is knowing the money will go towards helping people who need it.

“If it's going to help someone get an operation, or help someone with cancer, or maybe even cure someone through research, I'm happy to do that.”

Today, Jamie encourages friends and colleagues in a similar situation to also consider foundation giving.

PA Giving Day will see donations doubled thanks to the generosity of matching donors and corporate supporters, with funds set to support patient initiatives, out-of-budget equipment and medical research on campus.
