Rochelle Foss, Senior Training Coordinator for the Digital Training Service at Metro South Health (MSH), has been recognised for her contribution to medical training with the University of Queensland's (UQ) Faculty of Medicine Teaching and Learning Achievement Award.
Rochelle, who has been with MSH since 2012, has dedicated the last nine years to providing essential training for both MSH staff and medical students, particularly in relation to the Integrated Electronic Medical Record (ieMR) system.
In her current role, Rochelle coordinates training for the Medical and Pharmacy streams within the Digital Health and Informatics department. Her responsibilities include overseeing the design and delivery of both instructor-led and eLearning training programs for MSH staff and UQ’s year 3 and 4 Medical Students. This training prepares medical students for their placements and helps familiarise them with the system, ultimately supporting their transition to internships.
“There can certainly be challenges when teaching anything really, we all learn differently, at different rates, via different modalities so having big classes can encompass lots of different learning styles can at times be challenging.”
"I have always loved helping others to learn new skills. The sense of achievement I see on their faces when they 'get it' is such an incredible feeling for me," Rochelle said.
"One of the things I feel especially proud of is when I create a brand-new course or online learning from scratch."
In late November, Rochelle was humbled to receive the UQ Faculty of Medicine Teaching and Learning Achievement Award, in recognition of the training provided to UQ Medical Students
“I felt very honoured to have been nominated in the first place and was blown away to be the successful person.”
The recognition has further fuelled her motivation to continue improving the training services at MSH. She is inspired to expand her knowledge in the eLearning space, with plans to enrol in an Instructional Design course in the future.
“I came on board just before Logan and Beaudesert were to roll out with the ieMR. Helping to train the staff and adapt to the major change, this was really a fantastic opportunity and memory for me. It was so great meeting all the different staff and doing what I can to help them. It is one of my fondest memories.”
"I absolutely love my role as Senior Training Coordinator, and proud of the team that I am a part of; I am exceptionally happy with where I am professionally," she said.
Rochelle’s passion for teaching, dedication to staff training, and recent award highlight her invaluable contributions to Metro South Health and the broader healthcare community. Thank you Rochelle, for teaching our future health care professionals and helping to shape the care delivered to our community.
