After a remarkable 48-year nursing journey, QEII Hospital’s Registered Nurse (RN) Day Surgery Robyn Piraner has officially hung up her scrubs for the last time.
With a career path tracing back to 1976, Robyn’s wealth of experience spans multiple states and specialties.
From early career exploration at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH) Burns Unit, to forays in Emergency, Maternity and Paediatric nursing, Robyn’s passion for exploring new horizons saw her thrive at a number of Queensland and Victorian hospitals, before returning to QEII where she serendipitously found her tribe at the Day Surgery Unit more than 16 years ago.
“I joined the Day Surgery team by chance, which I’m very glad about because it’s a great team and I feel very fortunate to be part of it. We’re all different but we work well as a group,” she said.
With nearly five adventure-filled decades in her rear view, Robyn says it’s her years in Emergency nursing and the QEII Day Surgery Unit that stand out most.
“I always loved working in Emergency, but I’ve equally loved working with the team at QEII Day Surgery. We’re very fortunate to have a great bunch of people who all do well together. I’m going to miss my work colleagues and QEII. It’s a great place to work,” she said.
As she farewells her QEII family, Robyn leaves a legacy of friendship and a few words of wisdom for the next generation of nurses.
“Don't stay in one spot. Don't get caught up just doing one thing, because there’s so much you can do with nursing.
“Have a crack, and you’ll find something that you like and that’s your thing.”
Congratulations on an inspiring career and thank you for your service to the QEII community, Robyn!
