Inala Vietnamese Community Group fundraising walk

Light steps made a big impact at QEII last month, after a local community group raised a heartfelt $3,000 for the QEII Foundation.

It all started when a fateful meeting between QEII Interpreter, Sonny Nguyen and Volunteer Coordinator Amanda Spann sparked a friendship.

What Amanda didn’t anticipate was that the new friendship would inspire a selfless fundraising effort for the hospital she loves.

“I’d been meeting with Sonny on and off for the last couple of months, then Sonny mentioned he and his Inala Vietnamese Community Group run fundraising charity events for a variety of organisations. They had previously raised money for the PA Foundation, and they wanted to do something for QEII,” said Amanda.

Making the most of the opportunity, Sonny organised a community group walk around Forest Lake on Saturday 29 June.

Sporting their finest Olympic green and gold, a group of 20 walked the talk – and presented a $3,000 cheque to the QEII Foundation a few days later.

On a mission to make meaningful change in their community, the group have spent the past three years coordinating fundraising efforts for a diversity of causes including the PA Research Foundation which has a dedicated QEII Hospital Fund.

“Sonny actively advocates fundraising for his local community and is already planning his next venture. We’re so grateful to be a part of that,” said Amanda.

This Multicultural Queensland Month, QEII Hospital celebrates the more than 200 vibrant cultures that make up the QEII community.
