The Comprehensive Care Committee are celebrating another big win for QEII, after a Health Roundtable report ranked the hospital a leader among peers across Standard 5 benchmarks for the 23/24 financial year.

The Health Roundtable assesses Australia and New Zealand hospitals against Standard 5 benchmarks, evaluating incidences of delirium, falls, pressure injuries and malnutrition. Hospitals are grouped with peer facilities based on patient demographics.

Organisational Lead Lauren says the results echo QEII’s commitment to raising the bar on Standard 5 initiatives.

“Essentially, that means we’ve come out in the top five in every category across the board, from falls, to pressure injuries and delirium incidents,” explained Lauren.

“This result shows that as a hospital, QEII is a leader in applying integrated and timely screening and assessment measures across Standard 5,” she said.

After a year of dedicated campaigning and knowledge-sharing on all things Standard 5, Lauren says the results symbolise a full circle moment for the Committee.

“We’ve launched several initiatives around Standard 5 throughout the year, because the Standard is very complex and there’s a lot involved. Standard 5 is all about bringing all the different components together to achieve a holistic approach to care.”

Overall, QEII not only placed in the top five in every category, but also took first place in the Malnutrition category.

“That means we had the smallest number of incidences in that category for the year,” explained Lauren.

“These results are very good because they show that we deliver fundamental care appropriately, and we’re a leader among our peers in Australia and New Zealand in achieving these targets of falls, pressure injuries, delirium and malnutrition.”

The team look forward to celebrating the result at the Comprehensive Care Christmas launch event on December 19.

“We have a very exciting announcement on the fundamentals of care that we can’t wait to share with everyone, and we’re bringing back the Wheel of Care.”
