This year has been QEII Hospital's busiest year yet with acute stroke presentations and admissions.
This was the headline for the brains trust at QEII’s Acute Stroke Unit (ASU) who put on an impressive educational showcase in honour of Stroke Week (5-11 August).
Stroke CNC and presenter, Jessica Wood says the event couldn’t have come at a more fitting time as the team marks a record-breaking year for stroke care at QEII.
“QEII Hospital has administered more thrombolysis in 2024 than we ever have before, and July this year was the busiest month ever at the ASU,” Jessica said.
More than 140 clinicians and allied health specialists gathered across four engaging sessions, with presenters sharing learnings on everything from Stroke Identification & Code Stroke, to the role of OT and Physiotherapy in Acute Stroke, and Dysphagia Screening in Emergency.
“National Stroke Week is our opportunity to bring the QEII Hospital community together to celebrate our achievements in stroke care, but also to refresh our learning on hospital specific processes in acute stroke management. I was pleased to see so many from the QEII Hospital community joining in the activities and learnings held during the week,” Jessica said.
“I would like to give a huge shoutout to the nursing, allied health and medical staff at the ASU, for their ongoing commitment to caring for our stroke patients. I also want to acknowledge the nursing and medical teams in ED who have been dedicated to improving stroke processes in the ED.”
Special thanks to presenters Jessica Wood, Lara Sonego, Linh Ackermann, Elizabeth O’Callaghan and Chelsea Allen and the genius behind the brain-shaped cookies served during the event.
