Wellbeing is at the top of the agenda at QEII Hospital thanks to the QEII Crew Culture and Wellbeing Committee, whose feel-good wellness initiatives have gained popularity with staff across the hospital and earned the team a place on the shortlist for the 2023 Metro South Health Spirit Award.

The nomination cited the QEII Crew for going above and beyond to support staff wellbeing while enacting the ICARE2 values and a positive culture across campus.

Founded in June as a multidisciplinary committee, the QEII Crew now comprises 19 senior leaders across nursing, medicine, allied health, human resources and corporate services who share a single vision: to support staff wellbeing and promote a positive culture throughout the hospital.

True to their ethos, the QEII Crew have rolled out a number of feel-good programs that include monthly yoga classes led by surgeon and committee member Dr Emilia Dauway, quarterly staff barbeques in coordination with the Executive team, and Giving Baskets for R U OK? Day.

The team have also supported the reintroduction of the Reward and Recognition Awards and Partnering with Consumers Award at QEII, and proactively consult with staff to develop an annual calendar for upcoming events and celebrations.

Committee founder and Nurse Unit Manager Operating Suite, Sarah Stormborn says the positive impacts of the program are resonating with staff across the QEII campus.

“It’s about making this place somewhere we all want to come to. We’re all here for our patients, but adding that little bit of thought into how we experience that each day is important.”

The QEII Crew look forward to growing the program over the coming months and encourage staff to contribute new ideas by connecting with departmental committee members.

Congratulations to all members of the QEII Crew and thank you for your ongoing commitment to staff wellbeing.
