A traditional blessing for the site of the PA Hospital Expansion Program, was held on 2 July to affirm the way forward for the construction works as the hospital campus heads towards new levels of quality care.

The official launch to the works program included a special welcome to country by Jagera elder Uncle Steven Coghill, with the blessing heralding the spiritual commencement of the project, a fresh start, rebirth and good-will for a safe construction program.

“The Jagera people are here … for engagement as we always have been. That brings trust, good faith, and responsibility. We continue to seek opportunities to make our sovereign country and nation a safer and better place for all our children to be healthy,” Uncle Steven said.

“We look forward to a future that's inclusive to all people, and that accommodates all people's health and circumstances in a meaningful and productive manner.”

A/Executive Director of PA Hospital, Dr Brian Bell said the project will be a significant step forward for the hospital adding an additional five levels above the Emergency Department to provide 249 extra beds at PA.

“This is a huge milestone in the life of PA, and we embrace this traditional custom of the Jagera and Turrbal people for the best possible beginning to the project. This is a great step for our community by beginning with the custom of Australia’s first inhabitants,” he said.

“This land has been dedicated as a health-giving place for generations which provides a strong foundation for all of us in the PA community who come together in the pursuit of health and wellness. As the Hospital grows, we will continue to collaborate with the community to ensure mutual respect and trust in the growth of the hospital.”
