Princess Alexandra Hospital staff have put their peers through their paces at the recent DonateLife Amazing Race event across Brisbane.

Set to spread awareness for the week which runs 23 – 30 July 2023, twelve teams of clinicians, donor recipients and supporters took to the streets to battle it out in a series of novelty challenges testing for speed, accuracy, problem solving and team spirit.

Our very own PAH team ‘Keeping it Renal’ took out the top spot on the day, while PAH ICU nurses ‘Organ-ised Chaos’ were hot on their heels.

For PAH Anaesthetic Nurse Caitlin Tabrett and her fellow ‘Keeping it Renal’ team winners - Tiana, Ben, Danni, Tylar and Chloe - the cause is one close to their hearts.

“I went into nursing to help people, so being able to assist patients and families after someone has passed, that is a really beautiful gift,” she said.

“As anaesthetic nurses we are one of the first faces our patients see when they wake up with their new organ, and it’s such a special part of the job, it gives me goosebumps to talk about it.

“It’s bittersweet because a family has lost someone they love, however we get to be part of passing on joy on to another patient and their loved ones and witnessing how grateful these patients are for the gift they have been given.”

Caitlin and her colleagues showed off their skills in everything from trivia and critical thinking through to physical agility as they collected items around the CBD to take out the top spot.
