Pillows were packed, toiletries were in tow, and on Friday 7 March an incredible 458 staff arrived at PA Hospital ready to stay the evening and serve their community with absolute commitment.

In the days leading up to the predicted crossing of Tropical Cyclone Alfred, an enormous amount of work was done to ensure staff had a safe place to rest if they were unable to get home during the extreme weather.

The Bryan Emmerson Seminar rooms transformed into a dormitory for the masses; the Executive Conference room was converted into a makeshift mattress room. And even some offices and outpatient areas that weren’t being used, shifted into a space for staff slumber.

It became a giant sleepover many will never forget.

While it was an evening of uncertainty with a degree of angst, staff embraced the situation to ensure the continuation of high-quality care and even snapped some smiling sleepover selfies.

The sheer resilience, dedication, and positive attitude on display over the weekend was a true reminder that PAH staff step up when the community needs them most. Well done all.
