Local residents and PA Hospital staff and volunteers are being asked to get creative to name the cranes which will arrive onsite soon to help build the PA Hospital expansion.
The two cranes will be installed as part of the $350 million PA Hospital Expansion project, which will see five new floors built on top of the existing emergency department.
Executive Director of PA Hospital, Dr Jeremy Wellwood, said the competition provided an opportunity for the community to get involved in one of the largest expansion projects to happen at the PA Hospital.
“The first crane will be named by a member of our PA Hospital community. This could be a local resident, patient, visitor, a school student or family. The second will be chosen from submissions made by staff and volunteers at the PA Hospital,” Dr Wellwood said.
As well as having their chosen name displayed on the crane for the duration of the project, winners will also be invited to sign the first piece of steel craned in for the project.
“As a little incentive to submit your suggestion, everyone who enters will go into the draw to be one of five people who can sign the steel and be part of the history of the PA Hospital,” he said.

Mr Wellwood said the expansion project would deliver an additional 219 new acute inpatient beds, 30 new ICU beds, additional cancer treatment bays and reconfigured specialist treatment spaces.
Chief Executive Metro South Health Noelle Cridland said the capacity expansion program is essential given the vital role PA Hospital plays in delivering specialist services to the state.
“As a provider of tertiary level surgical and transplant services, cancer care, trauma and rehabilitation, PA needs the additional capacity to continue to deliver more of these services for the growing community.
“Our expansion project team and clinicians across our specialist areas are working together with Queensland Health to co-design new health infrastructure that will deliver modern models of care and services that improve the patient experience and outcomes”.
