It’s been less than a year since Megan Seymour made the move from nurse to NUM within PA Hospital’s Coronary Care Unit (CCU), and she’s already leading initiatives that are making a positive difference to patients.

“Before this role I worked on the floor in CCU for around six years, so it’s been really nice to be able to lean on that experience,” she said.

Megan is now using that knowledge and combining it with her leadership and innovation skills to optimise cardiology care flow, significantly enhancing patient outcomes and departmental efficiency.

She has led new initiatives to streamline cardiology processes which have improved patient throughput but also minimised delays, ensuring timely and effective care for all cardiology patients.

“We embarked on a joint initiative between Logan and PAH Cardiology teams which has enabled a consistent transfer of Cardiology patients between the two facilities," she said.

“It was introduced last year, and we’ve seen really good improvements in people’s length of stay which means they’re getting their procedures in a more-timely manner which is excellent.”

And her drive to do things differently hasn’t stopped there; she’s also engaging with a variety of staff to review and benchmark telemetry guidelines and a nurse-led telemetry cessation process.

Megan's success lies in her ability to foster a collaborative and empowering team environment.

By engaging other teams and encouraging open communication, Megan has fostered a culture of continuous improvement and shared responsibility, resulting in enhanced team morale and performance.

“I’m incredibly proud of this team who provide world-class care to our patients every day,” she said.

“We often see patients in their most vulnerable state when they first arrive, so it’s extremely rewarding to be part of a team who plays a role in getting them better and getting them back home.”

Megan’s efforts were praised as part of the PAH Staff Awards program where she acknowledged the support she’s received from the Heart Lung Critical Care team.

Congratulations on your well-deserved award Megan and thank you for all you do for our community!
