Three Nurse-Practitioner Endoscopist candidates from across South-East Queensland (SEQ) have taken part in hands-on training in Logan's Endoscopy Unit marking a significant step forward in their nursing careers.
The Clinical Skills Development Workshop is a vital component of the QUT Master of Nurse Practitioner (NP) Endoscopist Program that candidates commenced earlier this year.
They will complete the two-year program to become both endorsed as Nurse Practitioners and credentialed as Endoscopists.
Acting Nursing Director Surgery and Critical Care Services Chloe Ryan said it was the first time in six years Logan had hosted the workshop for SEQ with COVID and other challenges interrupting the flow of the initiative until now.
“We're thrilled to renew our professional investment in this initiative through the Metro South Health Sprint Series, focusing on enhancing access and services in gastroenterology,” she said.
“With our positive history with the program and the current employment of NP Endoscopist Bronagh Costello as part of our clinical team, Logan was successful in gaining support of the candidate position.”
Bronagh, who completed her training in 2020, has remained at Logan Hospital and now leads the ongoing advancement of the NP Endoscopist role within the Gastroenterology Service.
She said as part of the program, the candidates and their supporting gastroenterologists performed procedures on select patients across two days.
“We carefully select patients and each one reported their eagerness to enhance the education of the trainees.”
Both Chloe and Bronagh said the support of the NP Candidacy reinforced to their team that it took all our people to provide the highest quality care to the community.
“Logan’s Endoscopy Unit is committed to empowering patients through accessible care, fostering collaboration among healthcare providers and advancing medical excellence in partnership with our tertiary institutions, paving the way for a brighter future in healthcare."
