Accomplished pianist Dr Vicky Yang has left a legacy of music to Logan’s palliative care patients and their loved ones.

The talented musician, who sadly passed away in 2021, donated a piano to the ward in the hopes of bringing peace to those who need it most.

Nurse Unit Manager Gillian Myles said that following her diagnosis, the late musician sought solace in her music and would play on a borrowed portable keyboard every day.

“Vicky was an incredible pianist who found music improved her quality of life by addressing the emotional, spiritual and physical needs she was facing,” Gillian said.

“During her time with us she saw a deficit in palliative care that she was determined to fill, and that could be shared and appreciated by all.”

Towards the end of her life, Vicky arranged for the purchase and delivery of the beautiful wooden instrument and shared her skills with fellow patients.

“Despite being in a terminal phase, we had the pleasure of watching her find her much needed peace by playing for the staff and other patients,” Gillian said.

Following Vicky’s passing and the Palliative Care Unit’s move to Building 3, the piano has continued to bring joy to patients, visitors, and staff of the hospital.

“Every day we hear the rich sounds of the piano flowing around the ward, bringing comfort to all of us,”

“We are so grateful for this everlasting gift. Rest in peace Vicky.”
