Redland Hospital has hosted its first ever Graduate Nursing and Midwifery Open Day drawing nursing students from across the region and sparking inspiration among future healthcare heroes.
The event provided a platform for new nurses to connect with experienced professionals, learn about the hospital's commitment to patient care, and think about their future roles.
Attendee Lorelei Kemp, a third-year nursing student at Griffith University (pictured left) said her journey to the open day was driven by a deeply personal motivation - her mother's battle with cancer.
"The quality of nursing provided to my mum during her cancer treatment was incredible," she said. "The dedication and compassion of the nursing staff inspired me to pursue a career in nursing and I want to ensure patients are always advocated for and receive the highest level of care."
The Open Day featured presentations from various specialties and Inpatient Units providing students with an insight into the hospital's services and culture.
Lorelei said she was surprised to discover the hospital's Special Care Nursery.
“I wanted to get a feel for the hospital and its culture," she said. "I didn’t know Redland Hospital had a Special Care Nursery so it’s definitely a place to consider for my graduate program."
Assistant Director of Nursing Penny Wright said hosting the first Open Day was part of the journey of growth at Redland Hospital.
“Our hospital is growing and that means we have more opportunities for staff, students and graduates,” she said. "We were really happy with the attendance and the opportunity for our staff to speak directly to graduate nurses," she said.
Thanks to everyone who attended the day!
