Switching from diesel mechanics to nursing might seem like a leap, but for Logan's Nurse of the Year Luke Anthony, the shared similarities made the transition surprisingly smooth.

The Acting Nurse Unit Manager said both fields required a meticulous attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work under pressure.

Luke said he was inspired to change careers after seeing the impact his close friend, and passionate nurse, had on the lives of others.

More than a decade later, Luke said it was validating to see his hard work in the field recognised.

“Self-educating and continuous learning have always been central to my approach as a nurse,” he said.

“My favourite thing about nursing is the variety and challenges of each day and the satisfaction of helping people makes nursing incredibly fulfilling for me.”

Luke said he planned on using his experiences to drive positive change in healthcare organisations and mentor aspiring nurses.

Congratulations Luke. We look forward to following your journey.
