Logan Hospital's nursing and midwifery graduate open day

Hundreds of hopeful nursing and midwifery students gathered at Logan Hospital recently, seeking valuable insights to their future career paths.

Among them were friends Salome, Jehana and Valentine who will all graduate as Registered Nurses later this year.

After meeting at university, the trio has enjoyed a three-year-friendship and now hope to become colleagues as well as friends.

Salome, a passionate mental health advocate, visited just one stall during the annual Nursing and Midwifery Graduate Open Day, already decided on her future in the field.

Likewise for Valentine, whose heart is set on cardiology.

Jehana on the other hand said she was still deciding which direction nursing would take her and said she appreciated being able to discuss options with experienced staff at the open day.

Graduate Coordinator Helen Maney said she was delighted to see so many aspiring healthcare workers at the open day.

"Attendees had the opportunity to meet and network with managers, education team members and staff eager to support them as they transition into their new roles in 2025," she said. "We have such an amazing and supportive team here who are committed not only to delivering safe patient care but also growing our next generation of leaders.

"There are some exciting programs on offer in 2025 including the introduction of graduate nurses in the Health Contact Centre which is another wonderful example of Metro South embracing innovation and supporting graduates to deliver care to the community using the Telehealth format.

"Thank you to everyone who made the day a wonderful success. We would love to welcome you into Metro South Health and encourage you to list the Logan and Beaudesert Health Service as your first preference before the graduate portal closes on 4 August 2024,” she said.
