Sunlight streamed into Robyn Sloane’s hospital room as her niece Amy applied the final touches to her makeup.

Her husband David gazed on lovingly, holding Robyn’s hand and sharing stories of the life they created over the past 43 years.

The couple was getting ready to renew their vows, a final wish of Robyn’s, made possible by Ambulance Wish Queensland, with support from the Palliative Care team at Logan Hospital.

The Brisbane grandmother was diagnosed with stage four glioblastoma brain cancer in 2022 and since then had dreamed of saying I do again, surrounded by family and friends.

With her health declining rapidly, family members said the heartfelt ceremony allowed them to share some happy last memories with Robyn, giving them some ‘closure’ and comfort.

David said he was thankful to both the hospital and Ambulance Wish Queensland for making it all possible.

“I’m just in shock of everything that everyone has done to make this all happen,” he said.

The touching event also marked a milestone for Ambulance Wish Queensland.

Robyn and David’s vow renewal was the 200th wish fulfilled by the program dedicated to helping Queenslanders with life-limiting illnesses experience one last meaningful moment.

Palliative Care NUM Gillian Myles said it was a blessing and a privilege for her team to watch the wish be granted.

She said the work of Ambulance Wish Queensland was simply incredible.
