Sporting wheelies to visit Logan's Rehab Unit

Logan’s Rehab Unit is set to roll out an expanded weekend activity service in partnership with Sporting Wheelies.

This exciting new initiative, made possible through the Logan Hospital Fund, aims to bring a fresh approach to patient rehabilitation.

Clinical Nurse Consultant Alexandra Conlon said the Sporting Wheelies program was designed to fill a crucial gap in patient care by offering additional therapies and activities on weekends.

“Patients often express a desire for continued therapy and engagement beyond weekdays,” Alex noted.

“Megan Evans, a new team member, recognised the positive impact of the Sporting Wheelies program from her experience at the PAH Brain Injuries and Rehabilitation Unit and suggested we introduce it here at Logan.

“Thanks to a successful funding application through the Logan Hospital Fund, we’ve secured approval to host a Sporting Wheelies coach on the rehab ward every weekend for nearly a year.”

The Sporting Wheelies program will offer a variety of activities developed in collaboration with nursing staff, allied health professionals, and the Sporting Wheelies team.

While the program aims to maintain patients' current function, reduce boredom, and encourage ongoing therapy, it will be tailored to meet the specific needs and interests of the patients.

Logan Hospital Fund Community Partnerships Manager Ellen Dan said the new initiative was one of many made possible by the charity.

“The Logan Hospital Fund is the place to give for grateful patients and their families who wish to donate as their way of saying thank you for their care,” Ellen said.

“When people choose to give to the Logan Hospital Fund, they’re helping to create better health outcomes for the Logan community by contributing to patient support initiatives, state-of-the-art equipment, staff education, and medical research.”

With the Sporting Wheelies program on the horizon, Logan Hospital is ready to roll out enhanced weekend rehabilitation, adding a ‘wheelie’ dynamic and engaging element to patient care.
